"There are stars in the night sky that look brighter than the others, and when you look at them through a telescope you realize you’re looking at twins. The two stars rotate around each other, sometimes taking a hundred years to do it. They create so much gravitational pull there’s no room around for anything else. You might see a blue star, for example, and realize only later that it was a white dwarf as a companion -that first one shines so bright, by the time you notice the second one, it’s already too late."

I chose this passage because it explains the relationship between Anna and Kate with the whole family. Kate is that bright shining star that everyone sees, and Anna’s just the companion star. Everyone paid attention to Kate just because she was the one that was supposed to die soon. Even thought Anna was helping Kate survive all this time, people were still overlooking her. Until Anna brought it to her parents attention in court, they didn’t realize what they were making Anna sacrifice to help Kate. Everyone sees Kate and they automatically feel sorry for her. But what most people overlook the fact that Anna is the one to blame for Kate still being alive. It’s too late to make up for the time that you didn’t see that companion star when you’re too busy looking at the bright star.
